Movie Review: The Whale
Brendan Fraser’s return to limelight is one of my best celebrity comeback and The Whale had a lot to do with it.
If the name Brendan Fraser doesn’t ring a bell, then maybe George of the Jungle does. Brendan had his peak moments during teh Mummy era but slowly faded to the background disappearing from our screens and sights. Well, he’s back now and brought with him, his best performance as an actor, and I’m counting The Mummy.

An obese English teacher with congenital heart issues realises he is dying and decides to use his last time to rekindle the failing relationship with his daughter.
The first scene was so uncomfortable I didn’t know whether to laugh or panic. There are extreme sports one should not engage in when they have a failing heart because it just may end up bad.
His daughter
Fine. We get it. He abandoned you and your mum, but I’ve never been so furious as someone in a movie as I was at her. Come on already. We get you’re hurt but must you really be so mean spirited towards everybody? I also told my friend that I strongly believe she didn’t mean to help teh preacher boy, but his parents just saw the positive side of things. How can you threaten to report to the cops if he doesn’t smoke pot and then claim to be kidding?
You know your dad has heart issues and still dose him with sleeping pills. I couldn’t see the good her father was talking about, but maybe it’s hidden deep inside of her. Sadie Sink was awesome in portraying the angry daughter and it’s nice seeing her outside the Stranger things universe.
His Friend
I know this may sound harsh but I won’t be the friend to buy junk for you and watch you eat your life away. You may have loved my brother, but it’s not happening. I can’t do it. Liz is a good friend and siste-in-law but mehn, I would have snapped. The money revelation was not fair, too. Not like she needs the money, but his keeping to himself and not wanting to go to the hospital because he’s keeping the money for his daughter is a good enough reason.
I don’t know what the pizza guy had in mind. Curiosity is never a good thing because it gives a picture you may not be ready to see. He was curious and when he finally saw his favourite customer, he had this disgusted look on his face. Hello! Don’t you think he knows you’ll be disgusted, thus the money in the mail box? People and their expectations.
I don’t even want to get into the preacher guy. I hate stubborn people who put their own convictions against other people’s well being. What was he trying to prove? Whatever. Glad his parents reached out to him to come back home.
Brendan carried this role with everything he had. He was absolutely convincing for an obese man. The weight of the prosthetic must ahve been quite a lot, yet he kept going.
If you watch this movie, you’ll laugh, get mad, annoyed, sad and finally proud. It’s a rollercoster of emotions that shown Brendan’s prowess. He deserved that Oscar and I can’t wait to see what next he does.
