Movie Review: YOU season 4 part 1
Joe Goldberg is back.
At this point one may just give up on him because no matter what he says or does or thinks he wants to do, Joe is a bad guy who glorifies his bad acts under the hero maxim. He’s a psychopath who needs to be stopped because things are getting out of hand.
Quick recap
Season 4 takes us on Joe’s journey after his final battle with Love Quinn. After searching for Marienne and encountering her in a very fearful state, he tries to turn a new leaf. Yeah, right. Like Joe can ever be anything other than Joe. But this time, he isn’t Joe. He’s Jonathan. Well, Joe still is the abbreviation. He’s Jonathan, an English professor in a college and as he tries to get over the hurt of his love’s rejection, he gets intertwined with a circle of rich socialists who are just the worse.
My first reaction when I saw Tom’s dead body on the table was here we go again, Joe. The manner in which he gets to work so efficiently without breaking a stride is incredibly saddening. He is so used to clean ups and murder that he always has an eye out for a spot or a butcher’s shop and always has handy bleach in hand to finish up his dirty work.
New love interest
His love interest did not move me. It felt rather odd and not much spark or even connection. In my opinion, Love was his perfect match. They had that spark that made you root for them even when you realise they’re both crazy. Or maybe Love was crazier.
A new killer
Imagine my surprise at finding out Joe of all people had a stalker. He was teh prey for the first time and I loved how unsettled he was with the stalker situation. Will Rhys be the end of Joe? Who knows? Joe has proven repeatedly that you shouldn’t beat against him. One minute he’s down and about to have his throat slit, the next minute he’s injecting you with wolf's bane and you’re dead. Rhys has an upper hand with the whole Mayor of London move, but if I know Joe, which unfortunately I do, he won’t go down without a fight.
The Socialites
Honestly, those guys were so annoying I didn’t even flinch at their deaths, Maybe aside from the first guy. He felt more like a dumbass than a jerk. The others, though, are a bunch of lunatics. Okay, maybe not Phoebe. She may be better than teh rest but that circle is toxic. Gosh!
We can only hope that Rhys is done with the killings and doesn’t decide to frame Joe for the final act.
Season 4 part 1 is my least favorite part so far and maybe because Joe wasn’t the main killer, and more of the clean up guy. I’ve gotten so used to seeing him commit crimes, that it felt odd watching him be framed. Maybe part 2 will change my mind. Who knows?
