Eddie Murphy and Jonah Hill. What could probably go wrong? Everything!

There are actors you see together and just know something is brewing. The matching is quite uncanny and leaves room for a lot of adult humour.

Quick recap

Ezra and Amira are heads over heels in love with each other and want to seal the deal. But there are catches: Ezra’s white and Jewish. Amira is Black and Muslim. While both adults seem to not mind their differences, it’s another ball game for the parents.

Holocaust vs Slave trade. The movie was quite uncomfortable. More cringy if I may say. The discussions were unnerving, and I was so scared it would create some form of real life backlash.

Quick movie trivia: Do you know what other legendary role Ezra’s father has portrayed? David Duchovny is Agent Fox Mulder of the X-Files. Cool, right? I grew up watching X-Files, and it made me very comfortable with strange things.

In real life, it would be really stupid to want to go over your parent's head knowing fully well that they don’t want your other partner in your life. I mean, the sheer pressure of having to do things right to please someone must be overwhelming, and then taking into consideration that real someone is your partner’s father or mother.

I felt the producers wanted to address issues concerning the Black and Jewish community, but it just felt unsettling. I did laugh when the jokes hit. Jonah has always had a way with stupid words and he may not even be laughing when he cracks a joke, but you will. Eddie’s serious dad vibes was also hilarious.

I kept wondering if Martin Lawrence’s daughter will get that side of him.😁

I saw the breakup coming from a mile away, but what I hadn’t expected was that it would come right after their engagement party. Who waits that long to call things off? Don’t even get me started on the actual wedding. So, they just apologised and went to the altar.

Funny thought: What if Ezra and Amira had insisted on not staying together? The surprise wedding would have been a heartbreak gathering, right?

Trash or watch? Well, I wouldn’t trash it entirely. I watched it because I saw Eddie and Jonah and while I was able to laugh at one or two jokes, the movie felt unbalanced like it missed its mark wth the humour or the jokes.
