I love Mark Wahlberg. He's fun to watch and quite funny, too, and I guess when your natural character brings in the cash, there's no need to adjust, but mehn, he needs to build his range.

It's so funny that I can always tell his role once I see his name in a movie. No matter the role, no matter the character, he's him.

Anyway, back to the movie.

The Union sees him pairing up with Halle Berry and while it was a fun watch, it was just there.

Quick Recap

When Mike is visited by a former flame from his past he is drawn into a life unfamiliar to the one he’s used to living and must decide whether he continues with the new espionage life or return to his humdrum life.

Alternative Ideas

My very first guess was the right one but again it was a bit too obvious and on the nose. How did I guess? When he arrived at the bridge and said, “I’m at the rendezvous point,” he wasn’t actually talking to his team, plus he went against general reasoning and dragged his team outside. Any normal reasoning person would have stayed in and gotten back up. Anyway, I had assumed other ideas:

Idea 1

Mark was the bad guy but was so deep undercover for his own team that he had to take up the role of a local guy to cover up.

Idea 2

Halle was the bad guy— we’ve seen it happen before — and she needed Mark to take the fall. I never believed JK Simmons to be the bad guy. Not one bit.

My Thoughts

The rewatch value is super low as you wouldn’t want to watch it more than once unless as background show. I like seeing Halle on the screen again. It’s been a while, but overall it was just there.

There was nothing too fancy to make it memorable. Oh, I do have to mention that the fight scenes were quite smooth especially after watching the behind the scenes.

Overall, it was just there.

Hey, there. If you love movies, animations and tv shows then you are in the right place. I review movies and animations wittily. P.S. I’m not a critic.
