Movie Review: Black Adam

Good trailers do the work of prepping your mind for a movie and are most times misleading. Fortunately, I have learnt to not have expectations from any movie no matter it's genre.

Wait, that's a lie. I always have expectations for horror movies and they almost always don't meet up to it.

Back to Black Adam.

Synopsis

Black Adam is the latest DC superhero movie. It tells the tale of Teth Adam and his rise to becoming a "hero" in Khangdad.

Here's a quick rundown.
It starts with what is supposed to a good premise. We're taken back in time as we watch a king enslave its people over the quest for power. (Of course). The people rebel and the wizards chose a champion. The champion takes up the mandate until a fatal incident switches the fate of the chosen.

Let me just stop there.
It's Shazam, but not Shazam.

The fight scenes were the best part of this movie. I mean, the rate of destruction he wrecked in the first half of the movie alone was impressive.

The Cast

Atomic Man

I’m happy for Noah. He might have still brought his comic side to this movie, but it’s a step up from his To All The Boys I’ve Love Before era. I was scared he would be atuck playing a teenager forever.

Would have loved to see more of him in action though.

Cyclone

I’ve never seen a cyclone real life, but hers was mesmerising. She might be a green, but she got some skills.

Hawkman

I need to do some digging into his abilities because the beat down he got from Black Adam alone should have kept him down, but he kept getting up. Let’s not also forget he’s a hunk.

Dr Fates

My favourite part is definitely him snacking away as Adam and Hawkman went at each other. The way he teleported front and back was hilarious. It reminded of a dad staying out of his children’s quarrel.

The Rock
DJ was DJ. Big, strong and amusing.

The End Credit

Trust Amanda Waller to have a hand in everything and call in on favours from outside Earth. Feels good seeing Cavil in that red and blue spandex.

Man is looking tight. Get it? Tight? Spandex? Moving on.

I also don't get why they want to keep him under control. He's doing well and isn't causing trouble, so why bother? Waller just doesn't like wild card and that's what Black Adam represents.

Thoughts

Black Adam’s trailer had everyone on their toes. Waiting and anticipating on DC to create a masterpiece that would do justice to the comics. Truth be told, Black Adam wasn’t bad, but it lacked depth. The story lacked enough emotions to take it to that next level.

I enjoyed the fight scenes and hints of comedy, but honestly the storyline needed some work.
